Our facilities

Here at Wye Valley we are fortunate to have a full range of hydrotherapy equipment which allows us to formulate an individual treatment plan for our patients. Our kit includes:

Modular jet pool

Water treadmill

Hot spa

Overhead hoist

Swimming techniques

Modular jet pool

We have a large, modular jet pool measuring 6.5' x 12.5' with a water depth of 4'. It is maintained at a temperature of between 25-30°C. It has directional jets which provide additional resistance for the animal to swim against. The jet force can be adjusted from a gentle current to a white water rapid depending on the treatment your pet requires. If deemed necessary a hydrotherapy nurse will assist the animal in the pool.

The Water Treadmill

The water treadmill provides a steady speed for the patient to work at with a level of water that is targeted to specific joints. The water provides buoyancy and a resistance to movement. The water treadmill can be adjusted to varying speeds from slow to 8mph.

The Hot Spa

The hot spa is maintained at 30-35ºC. The warmer water increases blood flow and can be useful for relaxing stiff joints, muscle spasms and aiding pain relief. It is used in many of our warm-up and cool-down treatment plans for stiff, arthritic patients.

Overhead hoist

The motorized hoist allows large patients to be safely lifted in and out of the pool. It is particularly useful for spinal patients, and most of the preliminary work on these cases is carried out whilst supported in the pool by the hoist.

Swimming techniques

We use a variety of techniques for swimming our patients, depending on their individual needs. These include:

• Collar and pole
• Tri-rope
• Two-lead method
• "Free" swimming for toys.

We have a range of toys to encourage play whilst in the pool. Our ultimate goal is to provide a relaxed environment in which the patient can have fun alongside their treatment.
